The village recently enacted an administrative vehicle impound ordinance which became effective on March 1, 2010. Pursuant to this ordinance vehicles utilized in certains crimes may be impounded and released to the legal owner upon the payment of a $500.00 administrative fine paid directly to the Village of Burnham. Additional towing and storage charges are applicable and paid directly to the contract towing service prior to any vehicle being released. The ordinance allows for preliminary hearings as well as regular hearings before a hearing officer in the event the legal owner requests such a hearing. The hearing officer after hearing the evidence may render a decision of finding of liability in which the applicable fines will stand or may render a decision of non-liable where the vehicle will be returned without administrative fines. In either case the towing and storage fees will still apply. There are 56 offenses that apply to this ordinance. You may view the ordinance and the offenses by contacting the Village Clerk or the police department.

The 2010 Census is very important. We need an accurate count of Burnham's population in order to insure our Fair Share of billions of dollars distributed by the Federal Government annually, for the next ten years. The Census forms have now been mailed. If you still haven't filled out and mailed in your 2010 Census form, please do so in a timely manner. As of this posting only 49% of Burnham's households have returned their forms.
Census questionnaire responses are confidental: by law the Census Bureau cannot share an individual's answers with anyone, including welfare and or immigration agencies. Information is simply used to determine the proper funding and the representation in Congress for each town. Let's all take 10 minutes to answer 10 questions, and receive TEN YEARS worth of benefits. We thank you for your cooperation. For More information, please visit : www.census.gov/2010census

On Friday March 5, 2010, The Village of Burnham broke ground for a
Dunkin' Donuts at Burnham and Brainard Avenues. This will be the first
National Chain Business in Burnham. The Developer hopes to located a
Subway Restaurant at this location as well as and other developments.
The Village of Burnham has slightly increased the water and sewer rates.
The increases were very necessary because the City of Chicago has raised
our water rates several times in prior years and a another increase goes
in effect January 1, 2010. The Village has not raised water rates for (14)
years. The increase in garbage was a minium amount as not to burden the
residents no more than necessary. These increases will take effect on
the next billing cycle.
Due to a new Illinois State law towns and villages must grant freedom of
information requests within (5) business days rather than the original (7)
business days, this New law becomes effective January 1, 2010. The Village
Hall new hours will be Monday thru Friday 9A-5P and will no longer be open
on Saturdays effective November 7, 2009.
